HI, I'm Mikey. I build beautifully accessible digital experiences.

About Me

Hi there! I’m Mikey, a Northern Virginia based UI/UX designer. I am a born and raised Virginian and love how I can have the best of both worlds when it comes to city or suburban living. I am an avid gamer and designer looking to bring a whole new level of inclusivity and accessibility into the design and gaming industry. I have held a variety of titles in my life.

"Inspired by accessibility and inclusivity"

For the last 11 years I have been in the healthcare field, almost 6 of which I have been a nurse. I loved my time in the field but I always felt there was a lack of possibility for creative expression as a nurse. I decided for my own mental health and work life balance that this was something necessary and I wanted to pursue it. Looking back now, I wish I had done it sooner as I have never been happier to wake up and start working on creative projects before.

This led me to content creation via streaming on Twitch. While this allows my creativity to come to life, it does not allow me to provide for my family. As I got better and better at it though, I learned indirectly how to create a better user experience and even designed my own overlays and interactions for viewers. This ultimately lead me to looking into how to make a career out of making better experiences and interfaces. One well placed Instagram ad at 1 am for Thinkful, a boot camp for UX/UI design and here I am diving in 100%.

I jumped right in and have been loving it ever since. I have never been so eager to be better at something than the day before. My background has given me many transferable skills, one of the most notable would be critical thinking from my nursing and healthcare background. I am a problem solver and I am good at it. Critical thinking allows me to see many more angles and lets me be extremely empathetic. I am very interested in working in the gaming industry making my mark in the UI world by excelling at accessibility while maintaining beauty and delight for as many users as humanly possible.
