Migrationx website design

Summary

Velawcity reached out to our team to design their newest vertical, migrationx. Velawcity is a Legal Advertising Network providing case acquisition and administration services to law firms nationwide for mass tort, class action and mass arbitration lawsuits. With more than 10 years of experience, Velawcity is the premier solution to sourcing cases.

Problem

Tens of thousands of people apply for spousal visas and fiancé visas each year. The process is lengthy, expensive, and confusing. How might we make the process more user friendly and less confusing?

Audience

Our audience consists of those who are wanting to enter and stay in the United States legally via a Green Card Marriage visa or a K-1 Visa and their respective partners.

Solution

We have built a high fidelity prototype for 2 pages of the website. We were given a brand kit and despite our push for a mobile first design, the client wanted us to focus on the desktop site in this one week sprint.

Research Methods

  • User interviews
  • Competitive Analysis

User Interviews

To gain some key insights and further flesh out Rhea was able to interview a couple actively going through the marriage green card visa process and find out some pain points.

What did we learn?

  • Primary frustration has been the language barrier.
  • There is a certain level of distrust of bureaucracy.
  • Users don't know the key search terms.
  • Some users like JP don't know their family history making some of the application hard.

Quotes from the interview.

  • "The language barrier makes everything hard".
  • "It's hard to trust stuffed shirts (lawyers)".
  • "I want a lawyer who can speak with me in my
    native language".

Competitive Analysis

Rhea who was the primary researcher put together a fantastic competitive analysis and I headed up the visuals on it. We wanted to make this an easy to read and understandable infographic.

Define

Personas

We formed some personas from the interview and research. We were able to come up with one for each type of visa.

How might we help users like Elena and JP?

We will answer these questions as we go along and more but for now let's start with our user stories and flow.

User Testing

For this 7 day design sprint the final deliverable for our client was a user tested high fidelity prototype. Alyssa with the use of my wireframes focused on the visuals and branding. Below is the prototype that we used and will be building on now that we have tested it. Feel free to click through.

Final Thoughts

This was a challenging project, not only due to the 7 day time crunch but also because it was not a topic I really knew anything about. It was also my first team project which pushed me to learn, and remain low ego throughout the process. My communication skills and teamwork are stronger than ever now. I am extremely proud of the product we created in a short time, and the client loved it. What I would like to revisit in future are the key insights from our testing, unfortunately with the limited time and team schedules we were not able to make the changes to the final prototype prior to the presentation.
